NBA Preview: Reigning MVP Nikola Jokic takes on Joel Embiid in Philly

Battle of the Titans (Nikola Jokic VS Joel Embiid)

Grab your popcorn NBA fans, tonight we have our first battle between the leading MVP candidates – Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid.

It’s not often you get to witness a superstar matchup like this one since the team’s best player is not necessarily the team’s best defender, but in this case, it makes sense for Joel and Nikola to be matched up against each other.

Philadelphia 76ers

Since their hot start post-All-Star break, the Philadelphia 76ers faced two tough blowout losses to both the Brooklyn Nets and the Miami Heat.

Last night the 76ers managed to squeeze out a win in overtime versus the Orlando Magic thanks to some clutch play by Joel.

If Joel is hitting shots like this, just go ahead and say goodnight. We’re talking about a 7-foot 270 pound man hitting step-back threes with a hand in his face. In my eyes, Embiid is the most dominant player in the game today. Nikola Jokic & the Nuggets are going to have a lot of trouble containing him tonight. Joel has something to prove… that he is the true MVP. I can see him dropping 40+ on tonight’s primetime show.

Joel finished the last night’s game leading the team in points, assists, and rebounds. 35 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 assists.

He’s also leading the league in scoring at 29.8 PPG.

The 76ers are currently 2nd in the Eastern Conference with a record of 41-25.

Denver Nuggets

As for the Denver Nuggets, they are coming off of two losses to the Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors.

The Nuggets are due for a win. It won’t be easy playing in Philadelphia… but the Nuggets know how to win on the road (20-15).

This game has the potential to turn out to be one of the best games of the season.

Nikola Jokic has been carrying the Nuggets all season with co-star Jamal Murray out due to an ACL injury as well as young star Michael Porter Jr. The simple fact that Nikola has kept this team afloat all year is the main factor for his MVP candidacy.

Nikola has averaged 26.1 PPG, 13.8 RPG, and 8.1 APG… numbers even greater than his MVP season.

Nikola Jokic is the NBA Fantasy God. I mean who else puts up stats like this… it’s ridiculous.

The Nuggets are the 6th seed in the Western Conference at 40-28.

  • Nuggets +115 Moneyline +2.0 Spread
  • 76ers -135 Moneyline -2.0 Spread

Tonight’s predictions are a massive game out of Joel Embiid, but the Jokic and Denver Nuggets pulling through late to take home the win. The 76ers are playing tonight’s game in the second half of a back-to-back after the hard-fought overtime win in Orlando.
